Characterisation.
HEADCANONS/IMPORTANT FACTS:
► Akira has selective mutism. Not by the usual definition, but by the "often doesn't talk unless absolutely needed or with people he's completely comfortable with" definition.
► Connected to his mutism, he's from a timeline in which he actually died. The best way to explain it is under a 'Groundhog Day' complex; coined from the idea of past lives and reincarnation mentioned throughout. Rather than the velvet room be the endless trap with the bad ending, Akira is under a timeless loop of reliving his life from Tokyo until he meets a truly good ending(much like the games dynamics). It's deemed the larger punishment - after all, being forced to watch your friends die after you would be motive to do 'right' next time. Therefore, Akira thinks if he stays quiet this time, perhaps it'll have a different outcome, due to the events of his friends after his own. Though, like in the game, his memory is fuzzy until the event happens; he knows vague outcomes, but rarely completely remembers things. The only thing that plagues him is the gunshot, whereby he has nightmares and headaches from it. Mostly because that isn't real and changeable in comparison to other events. Akira's fate is always to 'die'. [IF NEEDED, EXPANSION IS AVAILABLE.]
► However, this is the timeline that meets the good ending, so Akira continues his life as though the true ending after the shot.
► Akira is bisexual and biromantic.
► He's a chaotic neutral.
► His actual personality is more soft and kind, a quiet boy who chooses words carefully. More details are below on the personality changes.
► Spent a lot of time alone with Morgana, and sees the other as sort of a figure to protect. That doesn't mean he doesn't think Morgana isn't a little shit.
► Leading from that, Morgana is often with him, unless the "cat" has dismissed himself(or if I'm writing with a Morgana, of course).
► Tries to see the best in people most of the time. Even those who have... "betrayed" him. Unless someone is truly, indescribably and irredeemably evil, like some of the people he's come in contact with, Akira will often come across as Naive when giving people chances.
► Has abandonment issues, though. Mostly due to the relationship with his parents - cold and loveless, especially after Akira was sent away.
► Never felt like he belonged anywhere until the thieves and Tokyo. His family life was never good. He doesn't like talking about it. He used to be the family disappointments.
► He's a flirty person. Well, maybe. Sometimes his kind nature can come across as flirty. And sometimes he's actually flirting. Though, if he's consciously flirting, he's usually really messy.
► Often after he's back from a trip to the Metaverse, the personas will still be in his system. Which is often why he can go from the shy Akira to a cocky one to a sad one. He can't control that. Consequences of the metaverse.
► these personality changes can happen snappily, and unexplained.
► On the topic of Joker, as stated in canon, he's a more rebellious side of Akira. A side of Akira that the guy often hides. Cocky and sure of himself. An amplified version of his ambitions/wants.
► Like a mask, Akira is often less inclined to be cocky like in the metaverse. Sometimes it'll seep out, which is explained within his stats below.
► In a weird way, as he can see the velvet room in real life, sometimes he hears the personas there too.
► Hauls major PTSD but rarely displays it unless under pressure/under a circumstance similar to his interrogation.
► Can't handle money well in the slightest. Will still tell people off for spending needlessly.
► Barely sleeps. Mostly because he's a disaster but also out of small fear of the lingering nightmares of his death.
TL;DR: he's overall a soft and kind guy with poor keeping skills, unless possessed by a persona. He has his moments of anger and comments that he shouldn't make, but is working his best to get through that. And through his PTSD from the deaths leading to his final true ending.
STATS:
Note: this is merely an explanation and extension of the headcanons above. I will still be using his "canon" personality used within cutscenes/the anime/the manga/my headcanons otherwise it would be OOC, but this is a way to explain and expand on ideas. This also entirely applies to Akira only as Joker in the metaverse is the rebellious side and could be seen as the "opposite" of Akira's stats.
KNOWLEDGE:
↳ Scholarly.
↪ Smart, but not to the extent where he's top of the class. He knows his stuff; can have times of stupidity, though.
GUTS:
↳ Dauntless.
↪ Stands up for himself sometimes. It's only sometimes due to his mutism explained above. He's not ashamed to talk to people he doesn't find intimidating.
PROFICIENCY:
↳ Transcendent.
↪ The highest stat. This is due to having skilled hands with making items and trying to bond with Morgana as explained above.
KINDNESS:
↳ Selfless.
↪ Most of the time, he considers others emotions before his own or tries to reduce the emotional damage others may feel because of his words. Of course, no human is completely kind all the time, so sometimes he finds himself hurting others, whether intentional or not. In all reality, he's a kind boy with major trauma and sometimes it lashes out.
CHARM:
↳Head-turning.
↪ He flirts. A lot. Not as much as he does as Joker, but a lot of the time he finds himself flirting without intentionally doing so. It's entirely up to the people he interacts with on how they take that, whether to embarrass Akira, take it further or brush it off.
